Virat Kohli’s Performance in Sydney Test: 17 in the First Innings, 6 in the Second – In the recent Sydney Test against Australia, Kohli struggled with the bat. His poor performances in not only the Sydney Test but also the previous three matches in the five-match series have affected his position in the latest ICC Test rankings.
Kohli has dropped three places and now sits at 27th in the rankings. This is his lowest position in the last 12 years of his career. The last time Kohli was ranked this low was in December 2012 when he was 36th. After 12 years, this is the first time he has fallen out of the top 25.
In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, not only Virat Kohli but also captain Rohit Sharma struggled with his performance. Due to his poor form, Rohit withdrew from the final Test and is now ranked 42nd. However, some players have improved their rankings through this series, which was held across five venues in Australia.
In the Sydney Test, Scott Boland, who took 10 wickets, has entered the top 10 Test bowlers for the first time. The 35-year-old pacer has moved up 29 places and now shares the 9th spot with Ravindra Jadeja. However, the number 1 spot in the Test bowlers’ rankings is still held by Jasprit Bumrah. Josh Hazlewood, who was previously ranked 2nd, has dropped two places due to injury, missing the Sydney Test. Pat Cummins has moved up to 2nd, while Kagiso Rabada is now in 3rd.
There have been no changes in the top three Test batsmen rankings. Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Kane Williamson have maintained their positions. In the Test all-rounders’ rankings, Ravindra Jadeja remains in the top spot, while South Africa’s Marco Jansen has moved up two places to 2nd. Bangladesh’s Mehedi Hasan Miraz has dropped one place to 3rd.
In the other two formats, ODI and T20I, the top three remain unchanged. In ODI batting, Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill hold the top spots, while in bowling, Rashid Khan, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shaheen Shah Afridi dominate. In the all-rounders’ category, Mohammad Nabi, Sikandar Raza, and Azmatullah Omarzai are the top three.
In T20I batting, Travis Head, Phil Salt, and Tilak Varma are the top three, while in bowling, Akeal Hosein, Adil Rashid, and Wanindu Hasaranga lead. In the all-rounders’ category, Hardik Pandya, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Liam Livingstone hold the top spots.
