After landing at Fort Lauderdale Airport in Florida, a JetBlue airplane was found to have two dead bodies inside its landing gear compartment.
In a statement, JetBlue authorities said that on Monday night, a flight landed at Fort Lauderdale Airport. During a routine inspection, staff discovered two dead bodies inside the plane’s landing gear compartment.
The authorities are investigating how and under what circumstances the two individuals were able to get into the airplane’s landing gear compartment.
The statement further said, “This is a heartbreaking situation. We are working with the authorities to understand how this happened and are committed to providing all necessary assistance.”
The airplane had departed from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport at 8:00 PM local time on Monday and landed in Florida around 11:00 PM.
Local police are investigating the incident, and autopsies are being conducted to determine the cause of death of the two individuals.
Just two weeks before this incident, on Christmas Eve night, a dead body was found in the landing gear compartment of a plane that had landed in Hawaii. That airplane was a United Airlines flight. United Airlines did not provide any information about how the person got into the landing gear compartment or the cause of their death.
The space inside the airplane’s landing gear compartment is extremely dangerous. If someone hides there, the lack of oxygen and the extreme cold would almost certainly lead to death. Additionally, after the airplane takes off and the landing gear is retracted, the person could be crushed by the pressure of the wheels.
